YOUTH RUGBY

Perranporth RFC run a youth section at the club with Micros & Minis’ rugby for boys and girls aged 4 to 12, a Junior section for ages 13 to 16 which also includes the girls age grade teams, The Sirens.

When?

The playing season runs from September through to the beginning of May.

Our training sessions are on a Friday evening (unless stated) from 6pm to 7pm for the younger ones & 7pm to 8pm for the older groups. The first training session is traditionally the first Friday in September.

Matches are on Sunday mornings (weather and pitch conditions permitting) and a full fixture list will be available online in September. Matches are normally held between 10am and Noon.

Where?

Training & Home Matches will be at The Droop, Ponsmere Valley, Perranporth TR6 0DB unless you are informed otherwise by team managers.

How to join?

We offer free taster sessions for the first 3 to 4 weeks before the fixture list starts - so simply come along and see how your child enjoys playing rugby. Your Team Manager will be able to take you through the membership process and discuss joining fees.

What to bring?

A water bottle and appropriate sportswear. Footwear should be studded rugby (or football) boots. Perranporth Rugby insists using a gumshield in contact training and during matches for Under 9s and above and recommend the use of scrum hats. We require a parent to be pitch-side for the entire training session of the younger age groups. Rugby is a winter sport so waterproofs and warm clothing should be considered - for players and for parents! Muddy kit and boots are not allowed in the Clubhouse, so it would be a good idea to have a kit bag with a clean change of clothes.

Kit?

*Our current policy on kit is that on your child’s VERY FIRST registration to the club they will be given their first set of kit which will comprise of playing shirt, shorts & socks. (THE KIT REMAINS THE PROPERTY OF THE CLUB) After this as they grow out of it you can swap pre-loved for pre-loved free of charge. (socks excluded): But to get new you will have to pay! However, bring a pre-loved back for new and you will be discounted.

In short you are given a set of kit when you join the club & if you leave you must hand a set back! This way it keeps the costs for parents & the club down.

We also run a Boot & Kit exchange. So, if your child has outgrown their boots, body armour, scrum hat or any other sports kit, bring it in (clean) and see if you can find something that fits. This is free of charge, but donations welcomed.

*policy can be subject to change

Match Fees?

These are included in your annual membership.

BUT what we spend on after match food we cannot spend on new equipment, balls, pads, cones, poles etc. SO, YOUR HELP IS NEEDED.

We have a catering trailer that sells teas, coffees, drinks and confectionary on training nights with the addition of bacon baps on a Sunday match day. All funds made through this stay in the youth section. They will either subsidise players after match food or goes towards equipment. The catering trailer is run by parent volunteers on a team rota. So, when your team manager asks for volunteers please help out if you can.

Parking!

When the town gets busy in the summer and there is no where to park, as a member of the club you are entitled to park at the club car park free of charge.

Dogs?

Just a reminder that dogs are NOT PERMITTED on the pitch. However, they can be walked around the perimeter. But remember to clean up.
