Perranporth Rugby are very proud to announce that John Sumnall, our outgoing Honorary Secretary, has taken up the prestigious role of President at Cornwall Rugby Football Union. This is a great honour and very well-deserved for John who has been involved with rugby for over 60 years.
Although John had to retire from the field of play in 1959 as a young man due to a series of knee injuries, his passion to the game did not allow him to completely hang up his boots or enthusiasm.
In 1960 he became the fixture secretary for Newcastle (Staffs) RUFC before moving to London in 1966 to become a student where he put his boots back on and began to referee.
His CV is impressive showing his commitment of service to rugby both in the UK & abroad, to date is tireless and without a break.
He was the founding chairman of The Bolingey Barbarians from 1993 to 2005 and became our representative to the CRFU in 2010.
